Last night at the #PharrellWilliamsConcert

I beleive as a journalist you need to find your strength and your weaknesses in order to know where you are heading to.

I beleive I am an all rounder in journalism, I enjoy learning new things because it teaches me more than what I already know. When I got to YFM news I was asked what beat I would like to do and from the top of my head I went for current affairs and entertainment and so with entertainment I do features every friday and when there is something happening (an event) I got out and find a story.

Since I edit a lifestyle and entertainment magazine I am able to use those sources to get stories and it has been one thing that is so close to my heart. Entertainment is a little tricky- I mean celebrities aren't so easy to deal with besides the fact that it has to be a story that will interest people.

I got the opportunity to go the attend the Pharell Williams concert among other events I attend which are absolutely awesome!

My life as an entertainment reporter!

Confidence

I'm always talking about how I read news or do certain features but isn't it horrible that I have not even put a single podcast for you to hear the greatness I serve when I am on air?

Confidence is key but also remember that you don't have to pull other people down to show your confidence- it actually annoys me how people want to speak about how this one is so bad and they are the best. You need to remember that your only competition is yourself, learn to be better than you were yesterday- remember that in life you need to learn from your mistakes and also own up to your mistakes.

Going a little over board aren't I? Anyway if you want to hear my voice I'll have it for you in my next post keep checking them out.

Do you know your body shape?

Looking great is on every girl’s agenda, the only problem is when you don’t dress according to the shape of your body. To look great you need to wear something that really compliments your body. Speaking to fashion designer Danny Mdluli, he gave me three body types, which one are you?

·         Hourglass shape- “for women with this body, the bust and hip are approximately the same size, and the waist is narrow. This is the typical BeyoncĂ© and JLo look”.

·         Pear Shaped figure- “Curvy hips, thick thighs, and a full bum are the key characteristics of the pear-shaped woman. Women who are Pear shaped are small up top and big down low”.
·         Rectangular body shape or the athletic shape- “These women are generally plank-like, they are the same size from bust waist and hips”

Have you found your body type yet? Now that you know what your body shape/type is, wouldn’t it be even better to know what would look better on you, something that will complement your body? Don’t worry, I got you, well Danny and I. According to Danny:
·         Hourglass body shaped woman's focal point is their waist. Women with this body shape have to avoid wear bulky clothes as it will take away from their initial shape. Key items to have are figure belts, fitted jackets (keep to short jackets) and dresses that hug the body.
·         Pear shaped figure- women with this type of body shape need to balance out their shape by wearing darker coloured pants or skirts and wearing bright coloured/ printed tops to draw the attention away from their wide hips.
·         Rectangle/ athletic body shape- women who have this shape look sporty their bust waist and hips are similar in size. These women have a free range to play with. Fitted clothing that hugs the body. Wearing layered skirts make the hips look bigger and wider.

Whenever I see people who don’t look nice in an outfit I always assume that they don’t have a nice body, yet after speaking to Danny my opinion changed, a lot. According to (Dailymail, 2014) a study found nine in ten women didn’t know their body shape- with many mistakenly believing they have a wasp waist and hourglass curves. Don’t you wonder why guys prefer certain types of body shapes? Well according to www.psychologytoday.com men haven’t a clue about why they prefer certain body shapes or why their brains light up when they see narrow waists and well-rounded hips and thighs.

“The ideal body shape we as a nation consider as sexy would be the hourglass or 8 body shape, not saying other body shapes aren't sexy.  But with whatever body shape you have, dressing it up to be in proportion is crucial”, says Danny. Society demands a bit too much from ladies, but I totally agree with society when it comes to body shape, ladies you need to wear according to your body type, just so you can look good and feel comfortable at the same time.

According to Danny:
One item that needs to exit your closet:
·         It’s difficult to say what women should get rid of but ill-fitting clothes need to go!
 Must have:
·         A quality statement necklace is a must.
·         The item every woman in the world needs to have is a good high waist black booty panty or the Bonang Distraction all in one body shaper.
You don’t need to limit yourself, but just be cautious of what you wear, don’t overdo it, remember simplicity is beautiful. All body shapes are beautiful, don’t forget that.

My role model in this industry

Morning Live news anchor Ayanda-Allie Paine! She anchors every week day and whenever I read my bulletins and I feel nervous I just think of how great she is and I just imagine myself as her, weird I know but that is how much she inspires me.

When she goes on field she is just too awesome actually, you would think there is no script when she does her thing.

Young and gifted

Young and gifted caters to one’s personality, the small, the big and the just too AWESOME! We make sure you are motivated by these young and hardworking people. Let us have a checklist for this one, and when you are done reading you can go through it again:
ĂĽ  Motivated
ĂĽ  Humble
ĂĽ  Motivator
ĂĽ  Educated
ĂĽ  Young
ĂĽ  Gifted
Musa Mthombeni, he even gave us his green book name, “Musawenkosi Mthokozisi Mthombeni” I’ll give him an ‘A’ for ‘Awesome’ for that. 24 years of age, born and bred in the Vaal. Musa is a former Yotv presenter, and has graduated and is doing practicals at a hospital in Durban.

Before Musa became a presenter on Yotv, he would go to the studio and be part of the audience like most people who would have loved to be part of the Yotv family. His TV career started in 2000 when he was in grade six, where he would do links on Yotv land with Itumeleng Bokaba, he then went on to doing shows with people he refers to as “the bigger kids” the likes of Cc, Carly and Salae.

Everyone grows up, part of growing up is widening your horizons, moving on to bigger things, hence Musa left Yotv during his third year of University.

Starting with Vow FM for 2years, he then sent his demo to Yfm and got his own slot called the reload. Musa describes his radio experience as a ‘fun’ experience; he enjoys doing shows at odd times of the night as he prefers to do something that will not interrupt his studies. I hope you are seeing the pattern here, books before everything else!

Media and medicine, this seems to a very different combination more like ‘weird’. Today young people wouldn’t want to go study something like medicine after they have entered the entertainment industry and there being light. 5 years of University studying medicine, Musa is now doing his final year making it the 6th year and this means that he will be giving back to the community by helping those that need help. Young and gifted indeed!
“The one thing that gets me up every morning is that I know why I’m doing this; I know I still owe my parents a house, I have a little brother who will want nice things and I have to give back to the community”, a young person who puts other people before them? Wow!
Musa in three words: life-loving, curious and loving.

Message to young people:
·         Introspect
·         Make goals
·         Plan for your goals
·         Get to work
If he had the power to change the world he would change “the youths view of themselves, we expecting things to happen, yet we are just sitting and doing nothing”.
Musa quotes a friend: “Run your own race”, do what you feel is best for you and stop looking at what other people are doing.
Go back to our little checklist, double tick it if you dare, I know I did!

Personal Branding Workshop Miss Alexandra

One of the best moments in life- I got the opportunity to speak with the Miss Alexandra2015 finalists.

I was so nervous but I actually enjoyed it- it felt so good to tell people my story, a story I believe has the power to motivate young people, a story that will make you want to get up and get it!

It's my birthday

On my 22nd birthday- I spent my day doing what I love- I read my bulletins just like any other day. We often want to spend the day partying and everything associated with birthdays, but this time I realised that this is the time for me to start preparing for my future and what best way to start than on my birthday!

However later on I will attend the SAFTA's for the first time ever- perks of being a journalist!

Happy birthday to me!

Yomzansi Magazine

I mentioned that I edit a magazine- YoMzansi magazine is a lifestyle and entertainment magazine where we try keep our content 101% local so instead of writing about Usher or Beyonce we write about your Khanyi Mbau's and K.O's just to show that local is really lekker.

This has been one of the best experiences in my life as I get to meet all the people I see on TV and just wonder how they are in person. It is one of the most humbling experiences as well, because you need to learn how to be patient, you also need to humble yourself and be true to who you are so you don't get lost in the crowd.

I was born to stand out

This month I get to do something I have never ever though I would do in my life- and that is motivational speaking. For those of you who don't know me yet- I'm the editor of YoMzansi Magazine so I was approached to speak on social media branding- in the past few months I have made it an effort to promote my brand on social media so people are familiar with me.

As nervous as I am, I know I will do great!

If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough!

I believe in dreaming big, but I also believe that you cannot just dream, you need to make sure that you make your dreams a reality!

When I started working I was asked will I cope with school and work at the same time, which made me doubt myself a little but in my head I already had a plan- a plan that I was unable to explain to the rest of the world and that is because it was more of a dream and yes it scared me so much it kept up at night.

Guess what? I'm living that dream that kept haunting me and it has started to spiral and is even bigger which means I do not plan on stopping: "If your dreams do not scare you- they are not big enough". Keep reading and see how this dream turns out!

My First time on air

After writing articles, I finally got the chance to go on air. I have never been so nervous in my life- but after this bulletin  I wanted to do it over. I hope the next weeks are even better!

Reading on air is a feeling that I am unable to describe because I get so nervous but excited at the same time, before each jingle I think "gosh the number of people listening to me at the moment!" which then makes me want to be great! Being a news anchor you need to know that you need to be kind to yourself, you need to be patient with yourself because you are only human and mistakes do happen.

However always remember that practice makes perfect.

My journalist journey begins

A few months ago I started a new journey at YFM news (a provincial radio station in Gauteng, South Africa) - I started as an intern meaning I spent all my December holidays there- which wasn't so 'cool' as December is family time and holiday time- however I do not regret my decision because it was the best decision I ever took especially for my career as a journalist.

I work for the news department which is my passion- to not only write but report.

So welcome to my world, I will be sharing my journey with you as a normal human  being because I think I'm that interesting (jokes)- I will also let you see a few things I get up to as journalist and more as a news reporter for one of Gauteng's hottest frequency- 99.2 YFM! In this blog I can post just one picture and it can say a million words, or even just post a video and it could say a lot, so don't expect long paragraphs or essays.

Remember my name, I'm here to make history!
